A beautiful Hooded Oriole (Icterus cucullatus) continues in a Nehalem neighborhood. Normally found in California, Arizona, southern Nevada and Mexico, this bird is a rare visitor to Oregon. Presumably the same individual was present last year and is making regular appearances again now, although some folks are finding it takes several attempts before successful observations. If you do go to look, please be respectful of the home owners and the neighborhood so that they continue to welcome birders.
There have been some very interesting Hawks in Tillamook County in the last week or two. Among the notable birds are a Dark Harlan's Red-tail and a Dark morph Rough-legged Hawk (see below). Even more notable is the report of a Swainson's Hawk seen by at least two observers and photographed by Cliff Cordy.
Of interest to many may be the Raptor Project directed by Jeff Fleischer and sponsored by the East Cascades Audubon Society. There are two Tillamook routes as part of this project, East and West. |
